Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive treatment that encourages the brain to develop healthier patterns of activity. The brain is encouraged to produce optimal activity once this occurs, the positive reinforcement will start, and when the brainwaves are not optimal the positive reinforcement will stop.
Neurofeedback is often a series of sessions over a period of weeks or months to achieve lasting results.
Neurofeedback
1. Consultation and goal setting
The clinician will consult with you to discuss your history, needs and goals to determine what type of neurofeedback system is required.
2. Measure brainwave activities
The clinician will start by placing small electrodes on several points on your scalp to obtain real-time measurements of your brainwaves to establish a baseline recording.
3. Train the brain with positive feedback
You will be asked to focus on images on the screen and listen to beeping sounds which have been designed to encourage desired changes in your brainwave patterns.
4. Monitor your progress
The clinician will monitor your brainwave activity and make adjustments to the feedback parameters to ensure that you are receiving the right cues to promote desired changes.
